Since March 2023, Digno Montalván holds a PhD in Advanced Studies in Human Rights from Carlos III University of Madrid with the thesis "Natures and Rights: the representation of the non-human in philosophy, politics, and law." This work was awarded the extraordinary doctoral prize for the best doctoral thesis in human rights at UC3M for the period 2022-2023. He is also a lawyer graduated from the University of Especialidades Espíritu Santo of Ecuador since 2013 and holds a master's degree in constitutional law from the Centro de Estudios Políticos y Constitucionales de España, where he received the extraordinary prize for the best Master's Thesis in the 2015-2016 edition. From September 2018 to January 2023, he worked as a Predoctoral Researcher (FPI-MINECO Contract) at Carlos III University of Madrid. From February to June 2023 as a researcher on the European ERC project “RIVERS” and from June to the present as a postdoctoral researcher on the Ecoprudencia project, both projects belonging to Carlos III University of Madrid. Additionally, he has participated as an associated researcher in national projects: “Construction of emerging rights. Debates for the foundation of new parameters of constitutionality (CDREM)”; “Theories of Justice and Global Law of Human Rights (JUSGLOBAL)”; On Trust-cm. Interuniversity Program in Culture of Legality, and the coordinated European project “Speak4Nature”. He has 6 months of international research stay: 3 months at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and 3 months at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. Lastly, he is a member of various national and international academic networks, including: The Global Network for Human Rights and the Environment (GNHRE); The United Nations program Harmony with Nature; The Law and Society Association (LSA); The Latin American Studies Association (LASA) and The Latin American Political Science Association (ALACIP). As a result of his academic work, he has published to date 6 articles on indigenous peoples' rights, nature's rights, ecological transition, climate law, and international human rights protection systems in high-impact journals. He has published 1 collective work and 2 book chapters. He is a reviewer for several top-tier journals in the field both nationally and internationally, among them: The International Journal of Human Rights (Routledge) and The Journal of Legal Pluralism and Critical Social Analysis (Routledge). He is a member of the editorial and academic team of Eunomía, a journal in the culture of legality. He has coordinated knowledge dissemination activities such as seminars, webinars, congresses, and workshops. He has designed, coordinated, and executed online training courses on anti-corruption and ecological justice. He is the creator and coordinator of the academic podcast “Weaving Waters”.
