Pragmatic reconstruction in jurisprudence: features of a realistic legal theory

On Tuesday, May 7, 20197, Brian Z. Tamanaha (Washington University School of Law, EEUU)) will present the paper Pragmatic reconstruction in jurisprudence: features of a realistic legal theory for further discussion with attendees.

Professor Brian Z. Tamanaha is John S. Lehmann University Professor at Washington University School of Law. Much of his research has focused on the study and analysis of socio-legal theory. Author of works such as Beyond the Formalist-Realist Divide (Princeton 2010), Law as a Means to an End (Cambridge 2006), On the Rule of Law (Cambridge 2004), A General Jurisprudence of Law and Society (Oxford 2001), his latest book A Realistic Theory of Law (Cambridge 2017), has been awarded the IVR Book Prize for the best book in legal philosophy published in 2017-18 by the World Philosophy of Law Association.

In the next session of the Jesús G. Amuchastegui Permanent Seminar organized by GIDYJ, Prof. Tamanaha will discuss the central ontological, epistemological and methodological bases of the realist theory of law.


About the SPA Seminar

The Jesús G. Amuchastegui Seminar - a name that has replaced the previous Permanent Seminary Law and Justice as a small act of recognition of the aforementioned member of the Group who died in 2008 - aims to be an active space for evaluation, promotion and dissemination of research in the area of Philosophy of Law and Political Philosophy in Spain, articulating the debate with academics of international projection about their ongoing researchs and latest publications.
