The main line of work of the project is the analysis of the intense transformations taking place in contemporary democracies. The underlying hypothesis is that the basic principles of universally accepted democratic constitutionalism in the most advanced democracies, and fundamentally, the principles of the rule of law and democratic legitimacy, are being challenged by the increasing institutional complexity arising from the development of new forms of governance, both at the national and supranational levels, which requires a reworking of such principles from a theoretical perspective.
